I'm very sorry, everyone, but after barely reading the lists for a while
now, I've decided that it's in my best interests to withdraw myself from
the SR lists for the forseeable future.

I've been burned out on ShadowRun now for a while, to the point that I am
considering wrapping up a two year non-stop RL campaign. Even before I
reached that point, though, I hit a point where I just wasn't reading the
lists much and where my characters had all but disappeared from view. I'm
afraid that I've just not enjoyed the lists as much as I used to - severe
burn-out.

Because I may well return to the lists at some point, I don't really want
to kill off my various characters and creations. That would burn too many
bridges I may want to use again.

As for InterPol Special Branch, I think someone should take it over and use
it to terrify the runners and mess with them in ways that they really
shouldn't be messed with. I'd like Drake and Monty to stay as the head(s)
of IPSB, but please play with it below that level all you want.

And now for the biggy - Maxim Arms. Some people have wanted Maxim
destroyed for a very long time. I'm sorry, but while Maxim will be fading
into the background as I leave, I'm not willing to destroy it yet. I
really do feel that, if I had had the time, it would have played a vital
"Screw with the players" part of many plots. Maxim came into existance for
the express purpose of making sure that the runners couldn't just walk all
over the corps, which they seem to do far too regularly. I really do feel
that SR should be more along the Bubblegum Crisis mold, where the Knight
Sabres know that they can't possibly bring Genom down, and that if Genom
wanted them dead, they'd be dead within an hour. Maxim, as poor a job I
did of it some times, existed to be that foil to runners, and as such
should remain a viable corp for when/if I return with a vengeance.

However, once I leave, if the list decides that Maxim should be destroyed
for some reason, so be it. Please, just email me and tell me so I know.

I've generally had a pretty good time, even if I occasionally got really
stubborn and angry on something for some reason. But this is the right
thing for me to do.

If there are questions or responses, I'll be on-line here at Plot-D for a
couple more days to answer them, but that's about it.

I'll say without too much hesitation, that I'm sad to see anybody go. It
is the constant input of many writers that help this place run, and
whenever somebody bows out some of the variety and flavor of this place
goes with them, especially someone who's been as active as you have been,
and a part of a lot of interesting stories like yourself.

I agree with your general feelings about the tone of ShadowRunners vs. the
corps, and I guess all I can say is that I'll be trying to do my part to
keep up the quality of the storylines around here.

You mention InterPol and Maxim. What about Valentine and Haven? While I
don't think I could do them justice enough to ask to run them myself, I
would like to see them stay around as a counterpoint to the darker side of
shadowrunning and as a safe haven for "those in need."

Oops.... Sorry, believe it or not, I spaced out about Haven.

Haven isn't going anywhere. It's extraterritorial now, and so it really is
a save haven, a la religous sanctuary from the Middle Ages. It would
continue to have the various holidays around Pagan festivals, and the
magical background around it should keep going up every month around the
full moon and down afterward, etc. Valentine would continue to rescue kids
in need of help, offer very inexpensive medical help to anyone in need, and
generally do what Haven existed to do in the first place - protect,
educate, heal, and create, not necessarily in that order. If someone would
like to run any other of the Haven teachers, I wouldn't mind a bit. Just
not Valentine himself. As for the parties, feel free to write up more of
them. I always enjoyed writing them, and there's enough of them archived
for the general feel to be duplicated without too much difficulty, I
suspect.

It's been good having you around, Brian. Your stories were always well
thought out, and usually list inclusive. In other words, you got
everyone involved in some way or another. I know I will miss you.

Damn. Another one bites the dust. Hate to see you go, Brian,
and I hope you decide to come back eventually.
