Yeah, Shadowplay, by Nigel Findley (who was damn good). Not that it
matters, but I'm a stickler for detail.

On another subject, Dave said:

Wasn't she a halfling or something? I seem to recall thinking that that's a
bit strange. Other than that I don't care to comment (just look what
happened with the Kamaltpa thing, it turned into a total circus. And I
still don't know the real name of the damn thing).

yet another subject, Kris said:

Oops, too late, sorry, it was all my fault, and I'm as sorry as a sorry thing.

With regards to the rescue, I've already mentioned the time constraint, and
I guess that's about all you need to know. I'll leave it up to you two
(Mike and Kris) to decide what else happens. Try not to get me geeked in
too painful a manner.
Phoenix Description: Eagle Shaman (like the squatter guessed), initiate at
about grade 1 or 2, no group. Knows only a couple of combat spells
(Firebolt and Fireball), uses extensive locked/quickened detections (combat
sense, extended detect enemies, extended detect magic) and a few personal
enhancements (Reflexes +3, Strength +4, Armour, Quickness +4, that sort of
thing). Has all her locks in a stacked focus which is also a low rating (2
or 3) Firebolt specific spell focus, in the shape of an eagle's head
necklace. Ally spirit, force 3 or 4 (so it hides a lot), powers of all the
usual (not inhabiting), knows a few detection spells (individual, magic,
enemies, extended versions). Only one form, an eagle headed tornado-thing.

I have a character that i would like to intro that may be able to come in here.
a otaku from renraku, is now 17 first went under the knife back in '50, as
soon as
he turned 10. He is old enuff now to realise what the corp has had him doing
all these years while he thought he was just playing matrix 'games'. He also
has come to realise what a restriction a corp life is, especially to a decker
who just wants to poke around.

In short the kid has grown up, and the renraku martix has been his playground
all his life. He has been lurking in shadowland for a while and sees this as
his chance to get help.
He is still fairly trusting because he doesn't think he will have many chances
to bail on the corp. If he has the promise from those involved that, if not
now then as soon as is practical, they will help him get out of the corp, he
will help them get ronin out by running wild in the renraku system(a tantrum
shall we say) and letting any other deckers who need in to work while he is
making a noise, in thru a back door, ie phobos.

if we can't work him in now then so be it, seems like a useful bit of help
tho.

OK... Rosha 'is' a halfling 'illusionist' adept. the metatype is
detailed in the NERPS -- Shadowlore base in the itribe-webpage. ( I think
I used all the correct compuspeak... ) It sounded cool (had a weakness
for halflings as a young D & D'er... ) so I went with it.

The issues I want to bring up here (hopefully it won't spiral into
a discussion like the "Free Spirits" as characters one, but if so, sobeit.)
... A) 'illusionist' adept: not 'sorcerer' adept. can only use illusion
spells, therefore gains a little leeway from DMs in terms of force of
spells and special spells... (see revised Rosha description forthcoming)

B) problems with an adept with cyberware: Rosha's knack is physical
penetration (get your minds out the gutter! :) ) of a target and
accessing the target matrix from inside (thus avoiding lots of ice and
using someone else's passcodes...) To this end, she has a datajack and
headware memory 60 mp. Functions basically as a tortoise. Other
cyberware for recon purposes and athletic purposes : balance augmentor and
spatial recognizer. Total Essence loss = 1 pt.

C) Initiate 2: B/c she is a subset of 'sorcerer' she still has no
access to astral plane. Therefore, she can only use Shielding and Masking.
and she cannot penetrate other Initiate's masks.

D) Personality: since the confident/flirtatious has been done. I'm
thinking friendly, trusting, ingenue (that's right I used an SAT word!)
type in social situations who clams up and gets the job done on a run.
Developed a couple background twists to surprise yall during gameplay,
but I still wanna make sure the details on this character pass the
existing DMs test. (Generally, think Mother Theresa with a calculated
edge for power and you start to get an idea... )

til next time

No shit. I'm happy (like I told Jays meatside). Phoenix has already given
away all Ronin's money to get him rescued. Why not get him indebted to a
wild decker too?

whether Otaku or not - it sounds like an interesting character.

He will be capable in one area while so bloody ineffective in another that
he will need other people to help him. The other factor is that he will
appeal to the "mother/father" instincts of more than a few of the
characters on the list.

Its the - "I am not a nice guy" syndrome that some people get while helping
others (normally protrayed in context with grizzled veterans and dwarfs.)
