Subject: UPDATE: ShadowTalk Awards
Date: Wed, 6 Jul 1994 17:21:44 -0500
Meine Kameraden:

Hayden, previous to his departure for the Fourth of July weekend,
inquired as to the status of the ShadowTalk Awards. Well, as promised, I left
my accounts open for the amassing of nominations during my absence. I have
received sevene such nominations to date, including my own. Although I have
not bothered with the ascertation of winners as of yet, I rather imagine that
even with this small sample, the results would be conslusive.

Hence, we are afforded a few options.

1. Tally the results for the present sample.

2. Solicit more responses for a period of time and tally them.

3. Postpone the event until Autumn, and then re-open voting to the
list at large.

FURTHER NOTE: Suggestions for the names for the awards should be forwarded to
my address PRIVATELY (please take note of this stipulation, as this does not
concern the list directly).

I don't care, really. But given the relative lack of interest on these
lists as of late, perhaps it would be better to do it and be done with it.

Waiting for Autumn maiy be the best bet: people were kind of
rushed at the end, when voting was taking place (those in school, that
is). Of course, they'll still drag their feet if given lots of
tijem
time, but you'll probably get a FEW more votes.

Hmm, I bet I can name 4, maybe 5 of those 7 voters......How sad

While being nominated is an honor, I WANT TO KNOW IF I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, waiting til would probably be pointless, but reopening for a week
or two should solicite some more votes.

This idea of some form of Awards Ceremony, or "Oscars," if you will, for
ShadowTalk was tossed about on Plot-D towards the end of the spring academic
term.

Seizing the initiative, I presented a collection of categories, as well as
voluteering to tally nominations. This was met with general approval, and
the nominating commenced. After a specified period of time, these were
tallied, and the finalists announced.

Finally, the nominations were put to a vote. What is presently been
contemplated is whe'er or not we should forge ahead or re-open voting.

NOTE: the only plotlines and stories that are valid are the ones from
November 1992 through December 1993. We'll do 1994 in early 1995.

In reply to Robert A. Hayden .....

I think the main problem is that most people can't remember everything that
happened last year and 'haven't enough time/can't be bothered' to get past logs
to check up on stuff. I know that the former is certainly true for me as I'm
pushed to try and keep up with the present shadowtalk logs.

When you also consider that a large number of people who were here last year
are no longer with us then the problem is even bigger.

Solution ? What I suggest is that the nominations are posted to plotd and if
someone <or a few> would like to highlight/quote certain portions of past logs
so that we can all see what happened <at least the big items like the Omega
island stuff>. This should get more people's asses into gear so to speak,
and generate more interest in the subject.

Phill.
