I bet farmer is pissed that they didn't intercept an invitation and have a
nice big drum of nerve gas ready to drop off... or a tacnuke... or a
conventional bomb... or a greatform toxic spirit... or... you get the
picture. That had the potential to be the most dangerous wedding any of the
guests had ever been to...

Which is why Val took extraordinary precautions to make sure it was
perfectly safe. Considering the sheer number of initiate grade magicians,
greater form spirits and elementals, regular spirits and elementals,
allies, and free spirits(greater and not), it would probably be one of the
safest weddings ever.

That greater form toxic spirit wouldn't have been able to get through the
active astral barrier, assuming it could get through the patrolling spirits
and get within a kilometer of Haven right now(since I suspect the party is
still going strong).

And in a place where the background count goes in anyone's favor who is
defending Haven? (evil grin)

Not to say Haven is impregnable, but it's close enough at this point that
no small unit or quick and easy attack would have a good chance of success.

With the combination of security present, it was also probably one of
the safest... if nothing else, think of the sort of magical power Pat
can pull down when he has to.

My exceedingly fragmentary Latin tells me that amamos is some form of amare
"to love".

Actually, considering that Haven's entire existance has been focused to a
couple of things(honor, love, respect, peace), if you even consider running
contrary to those principles, it's not going to like you too much.

At this point, Haven has a background count of about 1, maybe 2 when the
moon is right and the group is working(yes, Val is the patron of his own
magical group, which has over 20 members at this point). Right now, during
the party, Haven has a really big hermetic circle and druidic circle
operating as well.

And that circle is literally alive(made from bushes, trees, the meandering
brick paths, etc.). And before anyone complains about it too much, it's
been growing and being worked on now for over 20 years, so having a living
set of circles isn't unrealistic.

Val does, after all, take the long view. And as soon as the last buildings
have been converted over to parkland, the rest of the area will be
gradually(over many, many years) encorporated into the circle too.

Haven isn't Stonehenge.

Brian

PS: BTW, trying to mess with Haven would be decidedly...unwise, physically
or magically. Especially magically. Too many people like what it's trying
to do. You might actually get Val, the pacifist, to fight in that
event(although you'd have to threaten Haven itself first, and that takes a
LOT of work to do, or a single drop of blood, depending)

Not trying to abuse or distort Haven, Brian A. Far from my mind ... at
this point. And Brian R., you hurt my feelings! :) You think my
characters don't stand for love, honor, loyalty, etc etc etc :) ????

I like the concept of Haven alot and it actually explains a couple of
phenomena in my plot really well (actually just one, so --again-- don't
everyone go berserk at once)

And, no, Haven certainly doesn't sound like Stonehenge ... at least not yet.

And "semper amamos" ... technically means "We always love"; however,
I
was using it in the colloquial (can Latin be colloquial? :) ) sense
"Our love forever" ... InfoScholar's sign of respect for Lynch and
Lilith.

And oh yeah ... someone said something about if it wasn't in the rules,
doesn't concede that it exists ... true enough, but neither does it deny
the possibility of >>a certain something<< existing ... namely spirits
that can conjure.

OTOH, is there any reason for making spirits more powerful by giving them that
ability? I'd vote against adding that functionaliy to this forum's
representation of spirits...

I'm really not trying to make your generic force 4 free spirit more
powerful than it already is. However, if I can't find a solid rationale
to deny this ability to an exceptionally ancient free spirit of
substantially larger force to explain a couple plot developments, I won't.

Well, conjuration is the ability for a sentient being to drag another
sentient being from somewhere and into servitude. One way to look at it is
that humans, being native to the "prime material" plane, have the opportunity
to summon spirits native to domains in that plane, but cannot conjure spirits
while in one of the Metaplanes because they aren't native to those planes.
_IF_ all the metaplanes (including the "prime material" are on equal footing,
it might not be too much of a stretch to say that a being (like a Free Spirit)
native to a different metaplane could conjure spirits from domains in that
metaplane, but could not do so on the prime material.

This does assume that the prime material plane is somehow "equivalent" to the
other metaplanes, which I believe to be the case for my own campaign view but
which is not a foregone conclusion.

Presumably all metaplanes (including the prime material) could also have
equal access to the Elements.

Hmmm ... interesting hypothesis, Mark. If it's going to be a problem
with my freespirit having the ability to conjure other spirits on this
board, fine ... I'll deal (he'll just be hiring random mages and shamans
to summon for him constantly), but I like to point out loop holes in the
texts whenever I can. :)

Consequently, with your definition of planar equity, it is conceivable
that there is a Summon Human spell out on a metaplane (or "metaworld")
someplace. hee hee hee ... more toys to play with!!!

That works for me. "Always loving," I assume, or something like that.

A bit off-topic: our Rolemaster has its own motto : "Semper Moritatis" :)
