Hoi Chummers,

Thought I'd send my thoughts on the encryptions. They are:

1) Our characters(at least the Runners) are performing quasi-legal
actions (as a regular day to day job) that would deem security precautions
up the wazoo (as a standard opperating proceedure). In other words the use of
code's, encryptions, freq-hop equipment, and shit loads more of counter
intel/surveilance gear would be paramount and always assumed to be in use.
Hell I've CEOI'ed so much 'routine' reports in the Army that I'm sick of
the funny papers.

2) Remember the encryptions were to let everyone else who was reading the
list and not participating in the stroyline (refered to) know that
something important and behind the scenes has occured.

3) It sounds as if the basic failing of the use of encryptions is in the
same area as normal RPG's; Player Character knoledge vs. User knoledge.

4) This is shadowland and therefore mostly secure in it's own right.
The fact that we are posting to it means that their is some degree of
trust and acceptance of the risk for using it.

5)Combine the facts of a 'SAFE-relettively speaking-Net' and that the
characters are using every type of counter device made and some that they
have rat rigged together and for the most part the use of encryptions
should take this into considderation.

6) The need for plot material exposure, so that everyone is up on whats
really going on outweighs the need for 'Professional Looking Encryptions'.

To solve the problem I suggest the following:

1) For plot relevant data use the following:

*****Secure Plot*****

ex: >>>>>*****Secure Plot*****[What ever
happens]<<<<<
--Name

This is for plot developments.

2) For location data(open data/secure data) use this format:

*****LOCATION*****

ex: >>>>>[Hi meet me at *****LOCATION*****<<<<<
--Name

3) For standard encryptions used to controll plot information (ie; if you
read this you know whats going on and how the characters in the plot are
reacting to it-but you may not react to it) use the following format:

>>>>>*****ENCRYPTED/With/To/From*****Message<<<<<
--Name

With=Name of encryption, version ect
ex ENCRYPTED/Cerebus v4.6.

To=List of characters neames who receive the message.

From=The character et all who sends the message.

This differs from #1 above in that the actions of the characters
is shown and is for plot developments. This one is for character
to character conversations outside the ShadowLand (pretty much the
only reason to use encryptions.

4) As for other neat things:
1)Downloading files, reports ect
*****Download File/Report*****
2)Visual/Audio Feed
*****Begin Visual/Audio Feed*****
3)News file
*****News File DTG*****
4)use ***** ? ***** to keep all items in the same format

So there's my thoughts on the subject. Let me know what you think.

Scott...
