Well...this is speaking from personal experience, but...
I have met a lot of people who would consider themselves "magically active,"
some of them very much like hermetics (No, I don't mean "fireballs," I mean
like atheistic Wiccans) and others more like shamans (Again, I don't mean
"fireball casting people"). In discussions with these people I can see how
it seems to them that they're drawing upon very different energy sources
The hermetic sorts tend to feel that they're drawing upon a neutral, cold
energy source that is just 'out there'. The shamanic types tend to think
that the energy is based in nature, and is a vivid shifting sort of thing.
