Magic is magic, regardless of the culture, mindset, pyschology, or whatever,
of it's caster. It's these artificial barriers that cause the differences
between traditions. Or at least that is my researched take on magic.
And as for elves being paragons of light, truth, and beauty...no offense Mr.
Hughes, but you might want to read more about the elves than you have. I own
almost every sourcebook, like Mr. Anglissa, and it is clear that while the
elves look pretty, they may have the most devious and wicked of hearts.
Those few immortal elves (a storyline I'm not totally happy with) have been
plotting and scheming for centuries...And since no other race has an immortal
cabal (remember, NOT ALL ELVES ARE IMMORTAL) the other races are just one of
the boys, as it were. Black, asian, troll, dwarf, whatever. The only
culture they can claim is a human one. Elves are a little different.
I would very much like to see more about the dwarfs however. They have
gotten the least attention of all the races. But then again, that might be
for a reason...
