Yes. Compared to introducing another magical beastie and making this even
more like the Monster Manual of the Month. Part of the point of "Free
Spirits" is that they are written with the flexibility to become _anything_
the GM wants them to be. They don't have to all be rational, cold-blooded,
icky entities. They could be alien and weird, like the Will o' the Wisp.
They could be cute and snuggly, like the cat that brings you luck. They
could be nasty and viscious and massive, like the damn Juggernaut. The
point is that the Free Spirit rules are fully adequate to build any
creatures necessary for the plot. Just don't stress the "spirit" part so
much and you're in business.

I have no problem with your character investigating the phenomenon. However,
I might have a problem if I feel the _actual_ explanation is bogus, which is
why I threw in my two cents.
