Those of us who have been on the list long enough to have some familiarity with
the Maxim troubles seem to be in agreement that Maxim was due for a massive
humbling, but that it would not be plausible for it to happen all at once. If
you were impatient in the interim, you could have done some other plot in the
meanwhile.

This is an important issue. What this list is about is consensus-based
reality, which demands concessions from all its members to reach an agreeable
verion of how the world works. A lot of the debates that have gone on on that
theme have been abuot realism; such things as the T/D stamp alteration, the
hiding of the signal path, and so forth are examples. This list is supposed to
foster creativity, but at least I am a firm believer in _consistency_ first,
and creativity erected on top of that.
