The real reason? So everyone here can see it, even though they can't
see it. Otherwise I only describe it on Plot-D and that's less fun :)
The game reason, Shadowland is one of the more secure areas. *Everyone*
uses Shadowland for secure traffic :) And they just lost their secure link
via the Denver relay and had to reroute in a hurry.
In fact, they may not be using Shadowland at all. But they *are* using
the satellites, and that's where they got picked up (don't mention
Project Zircon, okay? Built eight miles from my home.)
Mark's right, though: more security - at least some flashy encryption -
would have been appropriate, esp. on the second message. Too busy writing it,
I should have paid more attention to detail. Sorry.
