Greetings everyone.

It may or may not have been noticed that there have been a few errors
made by newcomers like myself on the Shadowtk mailing list. This has
caused an *interesting* reaction to say the least. Some people have
acted reasonably and have been extremely helpful, one or two others have
been - to put it mildly - heavy handed.

Anyway, that is not the point of this post.

I have a proposal for everyone here, that I'm hoping will be received
favourably, as it is designed to prevent exactly the situation that has
occured over the past few days.

The proposal is for a
(Newcomers Posting Guide - Handbook)

This handbook, would hopefully cover all the miriad manners of
communication and posting methods that can be employed to shadowtk,
containing examples of how to and how not to post.
(I am willing to donate the how not to post bits <grin>)

Obviously this is something that needs to be discussed in this list,
amongst the people here. The original listmembers will already have a
very fixed idea of how certain things should be done, and these opinions
would be invaluable to any newcomer to these lists. It would need to
cover both PlotD and Shadowtk, and the correct manner of approaching
these lists.

There does appear to be some disagreement with certain types of
encryption and styles of communication even amongst the regular posters,
as I have had three suggestions from different people, all of them
contradictory. :(

I and others would appreciate it greatly if this could be discussed
here, and through that discussion, a Handbook for new posters could be
compiled. I know several people who would be happy to store this on
their web page to make it easily accessible. And it could be supplied
as a standard *with* the FAQ, to clarify some points that are not too
clear at present. It would hopefully be clear enough (using examples of
posts as well as explanations) to prevent the kind of knee jerk reaction
that occured here recently.

Hoping for some enthusiasm for this idea.

These messages were posted a long time ago on a mailing list far, far away.
