I have to agree with you here, if a character is French, German,
Japanese, or Martian, it is likely that on occassion, that character is
going to resort to their native language. Of course the fun starts when
someone uses a Native American, I've never yet managed to find a decent
translator for the various Indian tongues :)

Agreed. If a person is going to use a foreign language to add some
colour to the character, or for graphic content, then it seems only fair
that a translation should be offered, upon request.
