This sort of thing, as far as I am aware from merely browsing the
archives rather than studying them (always had a problem with that study
angle <g>) Nope. If it does occur, it's a small part of an ongoing
plot.

As far as I can gather there are still the usual sources for funding of
archaeological expeditions. Myself and one of my players are slowly
introducing a company, "IAAP" who's main interest is in the field of
archaeology. Other than that, it's the usual university, private and
some government funding that is responsible for what exploration still
exists in 2058.

The only other acknowleged source of funding for archaeological research
that I am aware of is from the Atlantean Foundation (see Corporate
Shadowfiles for inf on that company). They have a number of interests
across the globe, and it would appear that their primary desire is to
find Atlantis, this would require a considerable amount of research into
archaeological matters.

Aztlan is another matter. Their fascination with Aztec/Mayan ruins and
rituals suggests a greater interest, and I should imagine they are
enthusiastically digging up various areas of their country. I don't
recall any mention of it in FASA sourcebooks, but I may have missed it.
The one connection that SR makes for the Azlanners is through Blood
Magic, many people claim this is another throw back to ED times, but
forget that much of the worship of ancient civilisations involved blood
sacrifice. To acknowledge that Aztlan is using ED magic, must therefore
acknowledge that the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas also had contact with ED,
either through survivors or some other similar method (there are partial
links here that I will be exploring in Dark Avengers' plot, but until I
can find better reference material, it will only be suggestive, not
confirmed)

Initially there shouldn't be any problems with this sort of company,
even in the highly advanced "hi-tech" era of Shadowrun, there are
antiques collectors. People have always been, and always will be
fascinated by previous ages. The only time that problems may arise, if
extremely powerful artefacts of ED descent or incredibly valuable
articles are moved through via illegal means.

As regards S-tk specific, hmmm... There are a large number of companies
on the list, mainly involved in security (of one sort or another) along
with a fair number of solo runners, and a couple teams. So, I guess
effectively, as long as it's not too wild or extreme, doesn't involve
the sudden discovery of something that will have major effects on the
Shadowrun universe, an antiques/archaeological/research company has as
much right as any other to be here.

Actually I could care less. :) Dark Avenger is primarily hunting down a
single artefact, something he "believes" can be used in the battle
against the Invae, the secondary usage of archaeological items are used
as financing for his backer "Emma". She is controlled by Paul Adams,
and has her own agenda. Possibly with a view to releasing some of the
articles she has acquired onto the open market, so would be looking for
an outlet.

As far as DA is concerned, he's not in the antiques business, he's a
mercenary, and understands little about antiques/artefacts beyond that
some of them are valuable.

So you are more than welcome to steal some of his market. :)
