Okay folks, after my other rants, I think I should justify myself here. I
didn't see J Keith's reply hit plot-d but that might just be my mailer, since
I didn't see my posts hit either.
I typed this up to send directly to J. Keith, but realizing how I blew my
top in here, I thought it might be a good idea to send a copy to Plot-D as
well. Anyway:

>sigh< I give.

If you have the amazing magical prowess, the incredible technical skill, the
astounding array of contacts, and the availability of truckloads of Karma to
single-handedly, without so much as a day's worth of planning, walk right
through any and all security measures of one of the big 8 megacorps - to be
specific, the mega-corp that deals primarily in physical security, in a
situation where they are aware and concerned about activity around the asset
you're approaching.. what's the point of me playing?

Sorry.. that was nastily put, but I had to get it out of my system.

I'm not questioning Binder's motives for being there, whether he's with the
UCAS Publisher's Clearing House and has Ed McMahon in tow, or he's some Aztlan
blood magic research and design flunky come for new "materials" to test.. that
was never an issue.

I'm not even upset that he's there, really, it could provide for some
interesting plot twists.

I'm upset in how the story-telling was ruined.

I mean sure, Jak Koke could have just said, "Dunkelzahn was killed, but
we've figured out who did it." or Paul and Avenger could just post that their
decking team made a major crack in the case, sent an army of guys in, and
caught all the bad-guys, now it's just wait for the trial(s). Heck, in the
movie "Mission Impossible" they could have just cut from saying, "We need
this
file that's in the most heavily guarded room in the world," to a shot of the
guys dusting off their pants and saying, "Well, that was tough, now what do we
do with it?" Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Regardless of his skills, talents or abilities, getting into one of the big
8 is something that has a story behind it. By just saying "foop.. he's there"
you not only rob everybody of that story, but you also destroy a number of
plot-hooks for other people to get involved. From what I read, it was looking
like their might have been a group getting assembled to go in and try to
"rescue" newbie from the evil feds/chronos folks which would have then gotten
their characters embroiled in the whole tangle. Now it's just Binder, and from
what we've seen, if even Ares wasn't a challenge, what kind of difficulty
would the Chronos group be to him?

Another thing which peeved me was the way you ended it.. open dialogue
format? What was I supposed to do? Post one line of Newbie waking up and going
"Uhh.. whozzat?" and then wait for Binder to reply? I don't know exactly what
the ettiquette is here on ShadowTK, but I thought it was common courtesy to
email the owner of other characters when you're getting involved with them and
saying "Hey.. I'm thinking of doing this.." and then waiting for a response.
The only thing you sent me was that bit about Malcolm and the dog.. and then
you hit ShadowTK with it before I had a chance to reply. After that, the only
warning I've had about any of this is reading it on ShadowTK.

When I first started Newbie, I mailed Avenger to see if he had any
plot-hooks. He sent me a fairly detailed one, which I made into a post and
fired back to him so he could review and suggest changes. As it was, he only
wanted a name change and poof, up it went. This is what makes ShadowTK a
shared story-telling experience, and is (IMO) what gives the medium it's
strength.

I expect when/if I get better established and people have had a chance to
see the kind of writing I do, some might trust me with writing bits for their
characters when theirs and mine interact, and some won't. This is fine and as
it should be, but right now I'm annoyed at how much you've taken control of my
character and his situation without checking with me first. And to be honest,
I don't know what to do about it.. at the same time, I don't want to hold up
the story so I'm thinking maybe I should just give the character over to you.

Thoughts from the general public? Am I just being over protective of my
first character? (I admit it's entirely possible) *IS* there some kind of
standard ettiquette for posts involving characters of different controllers?
