Not part of any sourcebook no, but not all my opinion either. It's
commonly speculated in many NASA documents that we would be able to
subsidise our dwindling resources for mineral ores from the outer
planets, and asteroids. The metals we use are not uncommon, and some
evidence is documented that they exist in Lunar rock - Mars of course is
pure speculation, we haven't had that data back yet, or the samples, and
as for the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, again, speculation.

The new drive system is a modern day project, and NASA are hoping that
it will cut down the amount of time it takes to travel to Mars
considerably (with a view to a scientific colony perhaps)? As for Lunar
colonies, if the next expedition to the moon finds ice under the lunar
surface it will no longer be a dream, they'll build it. But they have
to find ice, the station needs to be self supporting up to a point.
Assuming a successful mission, and they find evidence of a frozen core,
or other ice deposits, then the project will begin after the completion
of the current space station. I suspect they may use the station as a
stop-off point for shipments to the lunar surface. There is also a
reasonable chance that a new shuttle will be entering service in the
early part of the next century, one that is better designed and carries
a heavier payload.

As far as FASA and space, it's on firm authority from the DLOH that
there will not, under any foreseeable circumstances be a Space
sourcebook in the forseeable future (too many other interesting
projects) - any information people use regarding this subject will be on
a personal basis or from the RTG CP2020 Space sourcebooks.

Me, I don't understand it really, OK, it's open to abuse, but it's also
a different and interesting environment.

That's why Doofus can't understand why NASA/Ares aren't concentrating on
space a bit more, it's still a valid frontier for exploration and to
hell with bloody mages. <g> The only other reference to Space comes
from Dunklezahns Will and the follow-up Module. But it's left so
pathetically unfinished that it's hardly worth even discussing. The
scenario is pointless and self defeating and the 50's style flying
saucer crap is laughable. There is a photo from Dunky's will that shows
bones of some description on the Martian surface, though whether it's a
cow or a dragon is a subject of heated debate. That photograph is the
only hint that exploration is still an ongoing thing, and FASA have not
offered anything further in this respect.

According to the DLOH they won't be either.

>Opinions?

Oh, loads and loads, but none that fit in with FASA canon.
Unfortunately I'm a bit of a rebel, I like the thought of Shadowrunners
in Space, they can't use their normal methods of operation in that
environment. <g> And as a GM I can get really wierd on their collective
backsides. :)

Firearms are a bitch in a pressurised environment. :) <EGMG>
