I think either Mark or Adam responded to this, but since I deleted that

The forms and what-not that the otaku are capable of still must occupy
space on the target systems. They may not take up much space at all, and
may only appear in careful system checks (and may appear to be only noise
or something to the normal admin), but they *must* take up some space if
they want to interact with the computer.

I suspect that the average runner using the Matrix would perform, or have
performed for them, some pretty good security checks. And those runners
that have been able to survive a few years, would probably be even more
paranoid about their communications, or at least the protocols so they know
their systems aren't being tapped.

Perhaps that's a dangerous assumption, but I don't think it's too far off
of the mark.
