I gather you've found yourself a "mentor" but the best advice I can give
anyone new to these lists, since they abide by different rules than most
mailing lists, is to simply lurk and watch for a while.

Even though I spent major time on this list several years ago, after a long
hiatus I still lurked for several weeks just to see what was up and to see
how much was different.
