Sgt Thornton isn't connected to s-land, but I presume Black fire would try
other methods to contact him when that fails. When such methods eventually
succeed, the good sgt would probably ask whether Black Fire has anything to
add to his investigation, but be very unco-operative about releasing any
details in return.
