Shifting gears...

As some of you are aware, GenCon is in a few days. This is also the
official release of Shadowrun, Third Edition.

We've already discussed what will happen in regards to the timeline
shifting to 2060.

There are other changes that will occur however, changes to the mechanics
that will affect our PC's power levels and what they can do and how well;
all of which could affect stories and threads here on TK.

Essentially, certain things are going to be cut in power, magic being key
among them.

Skills will be altered. Key example is Firearms. It will now be broken up
into what could be called concetrations. As of SR3, you don't take simple
Firearms, you'd have to learn Pistol or SMG or Assault Rifle, or whatever.

Magic will generally be depowered overall, much of this is in game
mechanics. One key element will be the elimination of Spell Locks. They
will no longer exist, and will be replaced by Spell Sustaining Foci.
Similar to Locks, but the spell must be recast each time after being turned
off.

There are a host of other changes, but I not only can't remember them all
right now, I'm not at liberty to discuss them until after Thursday.

Just keep in mind that you may have to do some extra creative writing to
adapt your old concepts (such as Spell Locks) to the new rules of SR3 over
the next few months.

That, and I suggest folks get a hold of SR3 as soon as they are able.

Mark, Paul, should we set a deadline by which SR3 concepts are introduced
and SR2 is phased out? SR3 probably won't be widely available in the
states until mid- to late-August. The UK won't get it for a while
afterwards, though I'm probably going to get Pete a copy, hardback if
possible, so he can at least have a copy (and I'm sure Paul, he'll fill you
in on all the changes until you can get a copy). If we are taking a
deadline, I would personally suggest...as early as Sept. 15 and as late as
Sept. 30. This should give enough time for the majority of the list to
either get their hands on a copy of SR3 and read it a few times or at least
get from someone else the needed information.
