Actually, from a response we got previously from Jim Nelson, it
appears that Ally Spirits don't have to turn to grant their bonus to
the Shaman. I'd say Ally Spirits function more like Cyberware (i.e. -
Muscle Augmentation) than a Streetline Special. In other words, you
don't have to turn your Muscle Aug to gain it's bonuses, you just
receive them by the card being on the Runner.

However, the example you were responding to refers to the Shaman
having three spirits, a Conjure of 2, and still using his Ally Spirit.
This can't happen, the presence of the Ally Spirit and it's granting
the bonus counts as using a spirit and thus counts towards the limit
of two spirits the Shaman may use at a given time.

Here's the paste from our Game Q&A:

Q.Since it doesn't have to be turned to use it, does the Ally spirit
count towards a Shaman's limit of spirits?

A.They still count because even though they don't turn, they ARE used.

According to the rulebook, a person with the appropriate skill requirements
may possess as many spirits as they can afford, but only use a nummber
equal to their Conjure at a time.

So where are we on the ally spirit thing?
If I have an ally spirit on a Conjure 2 person who has 2 other spirits....

The above Runner could have two Nature Spirits, a City Spirit and an
Ally Spirit given to him. However, if he's taking the bonuses from the
Ally Spirit that counts as "using" a spirit even though it doesn't
turn. So now he may only use one of the remaining three spirits before
hitting the limit of his Conjuring of 2.

Make sense?
