Here is a very interesting question that came up in a recent game:

What happens if you play Red Alert/Motion Detectors on an objective, then
have a challenge below it like Gut Check? Red Alert/Motion Detectors
makes all challenges unsleazable, however for Gut Check, your only hope
to get by the challenge is to "sleaze" it with a die roll.

As a judgement call, the group decided (against my judgement) that this
makes the Gut Check challenge unbeatable (except with Just a Rumor or
Rampaging Mutant).

What do you gentlemen/ladies think?

This is DEFINANTLY one of the most asked questions in the game, so don't feel
bad. You would THINK that Gut Check is unbeatable, but thats not it. Cards that
prevent sleazing ONLY PREVENT SLEAZING BY FUFILLING THE SKILLS LISTED IN THE
LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE CARD. The same goes for the alarm when triggered.
So cards like Sleep and Invisibility can sleaze cards after an alarm was
triggers, or on a Objective which Motion Detectors is played. Cards like Toxic
Spirit and Gut Check can STILL be sleazed in the same situations. FASA has said
that on the next printing they are changing the wording to "trash" instead of
sleaze, but until then you just have to remember the above. Well, hope that
helps. You can check out there offical FAQ for some of this information, but
they have only really spelled it out like this in email to people in the
listserv. Thanks again,

Rob

Congrats! You've hit upon one of the most asked questions on SRCard
(second to Bam Bam's pumpability).

Here's the response I got from Jim N. as listed in our Game Q&A:

~!~!~!~!~!

Q. Is there a difference between the skill requirement for sleazing a
challenge and alternate choices to "sleaze" as listed in the card text
(i.e. - Gut Check or Feeding Ghouls)? If not then a comb ination like
a triggered Motion Detectors (or a Red Alert) and then a Gut Check
could effectivley form a dead lock with very few options to get past
it.

A. Once Motion Detectors and Red Alert are played, Challenges cannot
be sleazed. However, cards like Feeding Ghouls and Gut Check! are,
indeed, an exception to this. As you point out, not being able to get
past Gut Check! on a successful roll makes no sense (and we are
counting on people to use some common sense in such situations. We
don't want the game to become as convoluted as Magic can be.)

Sleep spell would also work against Objectives defended by Red Alert
and Motion Detectors.

~!~!~!~!~!

The main thing to remember is that a triggered alarm or card that
prevents sleazing Challenges is only preventing a sleaze by meeting
the skill requirement as printed in the lower left of the Challenge.
Card text sleazing is a seperate option (and will be changed to read
"trash" in the 2nd printing).

So even though the Objective may read <foo> may not be sleazed, or
you've triggered the alarm, or revealed a Motion Detector, or your
opponent has Fuchi out... You can still get by Gut Check or a Maglock
with a die roll. You could still frag a runner to get past Feeding
Ghouls. You could still use Sleep or Invisibility on the Hunting
Gargoyle. You get the idea...
