What happens to the reputation from a False Mentor if it would cause
someone to go over the win point? I'm partial to either giving the player
all the rep but not the win or giving him enough rep to bring him within
one point of the win. The others in my group say the rep is not awarded to
anyone in this case.

Thanks!

"cannot
be used to win the game?" I would take that to mean that false mentor
needs to be played early in the game or not at all. If playing false
mentor would allow you to win, you simply cannot play it. That's my take
anyway.

I never thought of it in any other way. IMO, once you reach the
prearranged amount to win the game, you do. There are some problems that
can arise by letting someone go over the limit.

The example was given that if you go over the limit with false mentor, you
can then use Fuchi to earn just 5 more points and then win the game.

Well, if this is true what happens if you lose rep while your over the
limit? Example, your in a game that is to 100 Rep. Points. You play
False mentor and earn 115 points. On your turn, you attack your oppenent
and he plays Bad Rep on you, taking you to 105 points. Do you win now?

I think it's just easier to not allow the false mentor to be played if the
Rep earned from it would take you over the win mark.

What's everyone else think?

It was my understanding (And I believe this was how the demo-guys
(including Skuzzy) at Gen Con told us how to play the card, since it was in
the demo decks) that you cannot play the card at all if the rep points will
take you to the win point.

That really balances and limits what otherwise could have been the nastiest
card in the set.

False Mentor / Stinger / 6¥
Unique. You receive Reputation just earned by target player. Target
player receives nothing. This card may not be used to win the game.
Frag when played.

IMHO and they way I've always understood it, if False Mentor would
take you to or over the winning score for the game, the card simply
could not be played.

Say we were playing a 100 point game. If I was at 80 and you just took
an Objective worth 30 points, I wouldn't be able to False Mentor you
even though the card was in my hand. I would probably be better off
just discarding the thing once I got that high in points.

I usually keep the Mentor, itīs still worth it to get just a little more
Rep, or to prevent your opponent from getting it, just as long as you
donīt go over the limit.
