Can you choose if you are wearing the lined coat or armored vest? (ie Your
runner has these gear cards on him, can he choose to take the full damage
without armor so that he doesn't have to roll for the armor being destroyed?)

Regards,
Adrian.

We ran into this question in our group and decided that the runner is
either using the gear or not, player's choice. Therefore, on a run you
must declare whether the runner is wearing the armor or not and must face
all challenges according to your decision. You can't be putting on armor
and taking it off in between challenges.

Nope... no choice. You either use the gear you bring on a run or not.
You can't just change things in mid stream. Now the runner can be
holding the armor while on the run... not using it. Thus he/she would
take all the damage all the time and never have the benifits of armor.
Things are a little different with guns. Its not that you can choose to
not use or not use the gun during a shadowrun but you can choose to not
have the runner inflict its damage on the challenge (If your using the
silenced weapon idea).
