Dumb newbie question: Most contacts can only be used during the
owner/controller's Legwork phase. The Media Chick card reads "...use
Media Chick before a shadowrun begins." Am I being too lawyerly in
assuming this means anyone's run?

There is a statement in the rule book that said:

«Unless otherwise stated, Contact can only be used during the legwork
phase»

wich legwork??? anyone's turn?

if no: you can't use media chick "against" another runner...

Your own Legwork phase.

> if no: you can't use media chick "against" another runner...

As has been stated in another thread, you wouldn't want to use Media
Chick on an opponent's run anyways. The wording of the card gives you
a no win situation. You're either adding +10 to the rep you opponent
gets or you're losing 10 rep yourself.

Stick with using her on your own runs when you're damn certain from
recon and runners' abilities that you should be able to take it.

Ahh well a cunning player in our group was using it as a blackmail
card. They designed a nuyen generating deck and simply made a losing bet
to get himself down to negative 10, and then just bet 8 nuyen on each
shadowrun .. so that the running team would have to pull out of any
potentially successful run because "we thought" that the media chick
gave the user the rep points :-)
It was very frustrating, but looking closely at the card, it does not
say anywhere on the card that it can be on someone else's turn :-) I
have no idea why we simply assumed that it could :-) <blush>

Thanks for your input everyone!
We can't wait til the second run comes out!

I think Media Chick is intended to be used by the shadowrunnning player
only.

An excellent observation. Why didn't I think of that?

I have a little comment on media chick
let's assume i have no rep points
there is an objective on the table,
i use my media chick once by paying 1
nuyen and send a runner on shadowrun
and i pull him out after the first challenge and i lose 10
points(i'm now at -10 rep points)
the next turn i go on another shadowrun(cakewalk)
i pump 6 nuyen into my mediachick so
if i get the objective i get 70 rep points and win the
game,if i don't get the objective,i wont lose any rep points because i'm
already on a negative reputation number.
can i do this?

For now, yes.

However, in 2nd Run you'll find the DLOH's have "fixed" this.

Media Chick will be revised so a cap of either 1 or 3 nu yen per use
is put on her.

Also, the DLOH's have rescinded the rule on negative rep (put in
writing in 2nd Run) so there's no limit on the hole you can dig for
yourself. In your above example (saying there's no cap on M-Chick), if
you hit a Maglock you couldn't get past or you opponent hit you with a
WGC, you'd be sitting at -70 rep. Ick!

Media Chick: During the German Championship Tournament, the FanPro
representative asked FASA for official ruling on this (I think it was
FASA, but it could have been FanPro´s specialists). Their ruling was
that only 1 Nuyen may be used per turn, whichever occurs first,
decreasing the unbalancing effect of M.C. ---Felix
