Agreed. I admit I like the idea of them being truly random events, after
all you never know what life is going to throw at you.

**shrug** I know it is annoying, but it has solved some problems for me.
My mother wants to welcome in the millenium with her whole family around
her - so that is what we are doing this year - welcoming in the
"millenium" in St. Augustine with my family. Next year, my husband and I
will have our opportunity to welcome in the millenium the way we want to
(a more private celebration) - we also have freinds who are planning a
"Real Millenium" party for next year. I just figure that this means those
of us with half a clue, get to do this twice - once this year with the
masses for practice. Then we will do it again for real next year.

That's about the only upside I've been able to find. I'm just tired of the
human race blatantly displaying their ignorance every chance they get. Maybe
I'm being too optimistic, but I like to think that humanity has more
potential than that.
