Subject: Objectives question
Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 22:13:59 -0400
Greetings chummers,

I just started playing the game, in fact, I've only played 3 times, and
with equally inexperienced players. I have a few questions about the
objectives pile.

What exactly happens if you run out of objectives? I haven't had this
happen, but it has come close. In a 3 player game, one of the players'
objectives were always more tempting than the others (urban brawls, etc...)
and so 5 of the 6 were taken before the game ended. What happens if the 6
objectives get taken? Does the player re-shuffle his objective pile and
start over? or does he just no longer play objectives?

Also, is there a limit on the size of the objective pile? From my
understanding of the rules, it is limited to 6, but I've seen mention of
300 pt games, which would be VERY difficult to play with only 6 objectives
each, even for 4 players.

Thanks for the help,

We play it where that person just doesn't play objectives any more. I haven't
seen an official ruling on this though.

From the SRTCG Q&A:

Number of Objectives:
Q1: How many Objectives in a legal deck? And if its not exactly 6, why not? The
rules specify 6, but I've seen many 'unofficial' references to that being a
minimum.
A1: 6 is the minimum. You can have as many as you want. Sucker Run's don't
count toward the minimum # of Objectives in your pile. You can have up to 4 of
each Objective card in your pile.

Hope this helps.

When this happened while I was playing with the FASA reps at the Chicago
Comicon last July, they said that they just don't play any more objectives.

I've only had it happen thrice and I've played many, many games...

Six is just the minimum. As with most card games it is to your benifit
to keep the number of challenges low, so you have a better chance of
getting out the ones that work best with your deck.

Keep in mind that your objective pile must atleast contain the amount
of reputation points you need to win the game. So a 300 point game would
need a larger amount of objectives.

Try this ...

First of all, I always play with the same guy, so it's always a 1-1 game
:
- In one game, we play two types of game :
- A 100 pts game.
- A 10 objectives game, that means each player has only 5 objectives.
- All objectives are randomly choosen from each player's pile.
- If you run out of objectives, take one from your opponent.
- The two decks are identicaly mounted (17 runners, 23 gears, 25
challenges, and 15 locations/contacts/specials, for a total of 80 cards).
- Build all the statistics you want for each type of game.

We played about ten games this way and we like it. Each game can take us
about one hour and a half to play and it's never bory (like hell the game
can be !!!). If you ask yourself why 5 objectives, then think you have
to put challenges on 10 objectives instead of 12. For those who would
like to know, I had to mix my cards only once in ten games. We also
tried that style in a three players game once and it went well.

Next time, we want to try those new "rules" :
- If an objective is revealed for the second time, pick a new one to
replace it. Our last game ended up with the same first objective and we
want game with 10 different objectives.
- Each player build two different decks and randomly chooses one at the
beginning of the game.

If you have any comments/improvements to make, there welcome.

Newbie question: What happens if I run out of objectives? Let's say only
mine are taken, split down the middle, nobody has enough reputation points
to win, what do I do when I a supposed to play an objective?

Greetings,
My group of players do one of two things. We either just right the total
on a sheet of paper and the player keeps the objective. If they run out they
reshufle.

Or, we hand over the objective and if they run out of them they no longer put
one out and the only objectives are the other players until some one wins.

This is only happened a handful of times. Personally, I like it when they run
out and have to go on other runs instead of there own.

Hope this helps,

This system is the correct one. Itīs stated in the rbt that Objectives
are kept by their winners. ---Felix

Most games I've played in, and usual tourney rules, state that the Objectives
don't recycle. There are cards that may cause this to differ, such as SK
stating taken Objectives go to the bottom of the owner's stack.

If you run out, you're at the mercy of what's left in the other player(s)
stack(s).

With each player needing to have Objective rep totalling enough to meet the
game's limit, I fail to see how you'd reach a point as you describe above.
