Ok, This is off the topic of the trading card game but I have to
ask. I attend a Xmas Party this weekend and I was talking about the
card game and someone told me that FASA is really own by Wizards of the
Coast. I told them I could not believe this because FASA is privatly
held and nothing of the three people who own FASA wanted to sell. He
then told me he heard from a Wizard of a Coast person at Gencon that
FASA did sell out to WIzards and An anouncement was made on it.

What is the true story. PLease email me and not the group.

No sell out..

WoTC did aproach FASA and FASA refused..And a while back there was a
big blow up about this..Lou Prosperi put that one to bed
quickly..That of course was over on the ED list..

Although..I did discover the other day that there are many
organizations that claim the FASA acronym..

FASA is a privately-held company. I don't know the actual owners, but
it is *not* held by WotC. On the other hand, Wizards holds the license
for the Battletech CCG, so there is that connection, yes.

If there was an announcement, you'd've heard something Very Loud about
it. Remember when they bought TSR? Heck, remember when they snarfed
L5R? (Of course, L5R was initiates with the intention of one day being
sold to WotC, so....)

I think this person may have been talking about the Mechwarrior CCG. That
card game is done (& I believe owned by) WOTC. Thats the only thing I can
think of.

With the buyout of L5R and TSR by WOTC (gotta love those anagrams:)), a LOT
of rumors started flying about WOTC, most of them saying that WOTC was
buying out just about everyone, from FASA to WW (White Wolf) to WEG (West
End Games). I've even heard tell that GW (Games Workshop) was getting
bought by them.

By the same token, rumors started flying that GW was looking to expand it's
own Miniatures empire to include some more substantial gaming, like RPGs,
and thus GW was going to buy FASA, WW, WEG, or others...

Basically, if you believed the rumors, it was going to be a big showdown
between GW and WOTC for domination of all gaming...

<chuckle>

However, none of the rumors are true. WOTC is still trying to pick up the
pieces of it's foundering new ame Company, TSR. They don;t have the money
or time to invest in anyone else, even a stable company like FASA. They
need to shore up TSR and get it back on it's feet before they look to
expand anymore...

Also, I talked to several FASA execs, including both Mike Mulvhill
(personally) and Lou Prosperi (Earthdawn guru, second hand) and both said
that the sale of FASA was VERY much in error...

BTW: Almost every rumor I heard usually started with: "This guy from WOTC
said..." or "I heard from someone who works for White Wolf...", as these
led to the credibility. Wouldn;t surprise me much if these rumors were
being spread by WOTC just to confuse the issue...

And now you know...

And knowing is half the battle! :]

You mean the BattleTech CCG and it's owned by FASA, licensed to WotC.
