Hi,

Is paying the upkeep of a Prime Runner optional? Can allow them to go away
by refusing to pay it? What about if a Prime Runner is in the LoneStar
Lockup?

I don't think that it ever really states what happens here. We use the
house rule that you stop can payment on upkeep and the runner is
trashed. However if said runner is in lone star lockup you must pay
his/her upkeep untill you can get them out and then stop paying the
upkeep. We do this to help out lone star decks (they need a little help
and it makes it more fun for our group)

What about Jade, or Archie McDeven? What fun to keep a Prime Runner tapped
and force the owner to keep paying for it! : )

But it does say.
Rulebook pg 31 - "You must pay a Prime Runner's Upkeep cost every
turn to *keep that card in play*" (emphesis mine)
Rulebook pg 50 - "Pay any Upkeep costs for Prime Runners, Specials,
or other cards that may require Upkeep. If you cannot pay the full Upkeep
cost of a card, trash the card"

So if you choose not to pay, the card gets trashed. Barring house rules,
this should hold true even if the runner was in the LSU. If you have to pay
to keep him/her while in LSU, you can choose not to pay to trash him/her
while in LSU.

I agree with Sorrow on this one.....becuz, logically if you pay the Upkeep
of say Lord Torgo in LSLock-Up, no other copies can be deployed.....but if
you decide not to pay the Upkeep, then you open someone else up to play him.
I would say the same would go for a Runner with "In the Spotlight" played on
him. The Runner in Lock-Up is still "in play". Laterz....Kev
