The targeted Runner(s) go home. Note that Wild Goose Chase (which
targets a shadowrunning team) doesn't affect Runners on Retainer. This
is probably the easiest (best? only?) way around R-on-R - you can often
find yourself outnumbered, or at least Player B (as the Attacker) can
set up a Big Tough Guy against a weak or wounded Runner, almost assuring
that the run will be stopped. (You'd have to get rid of all the
attackers to pass the Challenge.)

Nope. The R-on-R player has a choice; sometimes it backfires. You
could wait for Player B to assign all the Runners he can, then boof some
of them back home - you can even kill off some of his Runners this way!
heheheh!

This is sort of ambivalent; I'd assume that it would be. You _didn't_
sleaze the Challenge, after all. Other than that, the Runner team could
continue onward, though.

Hey all.

This Runners on Retainer thing has got me bummed. Are you telling
me that if the Running party doesn't kill all of the Retained Runners,
that the challenge isn't trashed? We've been playing that you deal with
it once if the owner of the Challenge brings in his own runners. On the
other hand, I guess if you end up fighting the 8/8 A1 challenge and fail
to defeat it, the Challenge wouldn't be trashed.

Here is an important question then. Can the Challenge owning Runner bring
in only Runners that are unturned?

Does he have to turn them to bring them in?

Thanks.

I can give you a definitive "yes" to that one! I asked FASA that very
question and they said that only unturned Runners can be used for
Runners on Retainer. In other words, your opponent has to plan to use it
and then risk his Runners to stop you! Very cataclysmic! I like it…

This came up in a game last weekend. Assumming a player encounters
runners on retainer as a challenge, and the opponent uses his/her
runners in place of the challenge, do all of the opponent's runners have
to be defeated in order to move on in the shadowrun? Thus, if that
player can have one runner(blocker) survive, is the run over?

Yes. All Runners defending/ acting as the Challenge must be defeated.

Yes, I believe this is in the SRCard Q&A. If the shadowrunning player
cannot entirely defeat the defending team, the Challenge stays in place.
