Subject: Shadowrun card ideas... [Part 2]

Again, thanks for taking the time to read these...

Natural Calling - Location (Stinger), Unique
Cost: 8/1 Nuyen
Text: "A player with elven runner(s) must roll D6 at the start of his
legwork phase for each runner, adding +1 for each ganger and/or leadership
skill. On a roll of 1-3, turn elven runner card faced down to represent
the return to his/her roots until owner's next Refresh phase. On a roll of
4+, runner can proceed normally. If upkeep cost can not be met, trash
Natural Calling."
Picture: A heavily wooded forest apparently drawing the viewer into its
depths with illusion and song while a city blurs in the background.
Flavor: "Mother Nature calls to her true children to return away from the
cities of concrete and steel."

-- An attempt at an anti-elf deck. I wanted the card to be a location so
it could be visited by runners while also running the chances of getting
bombed. The stinger aspect is due to affecting all elven runners in play
while the upkeep is to keep that aspect going while still balancing overall.

Artificial Intelligence [American Version] - Objective, Unique
Reputation Points: 25, +10 if destroyed via decking actions.
Physical: 5/20 (A1) OR Matrix (special)/10
Text: "+2/+2 to all Electrical Challenges. For Matrix combat, roll D6 for
each turn. On a roll of 1 (attacker) or 2 (defender), A.I. uses the Black
Hammer program. Roll of 3-4, A.I. uses the Hog program at a decking skill
+1 that of the highest decker involved in combat. Roll of 5, A.I. use a
Steamroller program to try and knock out a decker's first program. Roll of
6, A.I. uses a Crash program to dump all deckers while black tarring their
programs. The A.I. defends itself similarly to the Camo program. Deckers
defeated by A.I. have their base attack/defense stats added to physical
stats."
Picture: The small silver elf boy of Dodger meeting up with the A.I.
similar to that from the very first Shadowrun series.

-- This is one of my most confusing cards to date. I wanted to portray
the artificial intelligence as a living decker. So I used the available
cards for deckers against them. There would have to be some alterations
for the A.I. against living deckers. The Black Hammer program rolls are
obvious - roll of 1 and the A.I. is on the attacker, roll of 2 and it is
the defender. The Hog program is self-explanatory while the Steamroller
program should be worded for the A.I. to say the first program faced is
trashed on a roll of 2+, the second at 3+, etc., but it does not retain the
stay-in-play aspect. The Crash program I wanted as a survival aspect to
itself, causing all dumped deckers to experience a Brain Freeze. And with
each attack against it, a roll of 4+ will avoid the whole attack.

Aztlaner Shaman - Challenge (Indoor/Personnel) 6/6 (A1)
Sleaze: Conjure - 2, Stealth - 1
Text: "Aztechnology Corporation Location Headquarters must be in play when
revealed, otherwise treat as a bluff. 2 Nuyen: +2/+2 (A+1) until end of
turn. Any runner killed by Aztlaner Shaman is considered fragged because
Shaman conjures an ally Blood Spirit equivalent to half (rounded down with
a minimum of 1) the original, unaltered attack and defense of fragged
runner. Blood spirit also must be destroyed to complete challenge."
Picture: An Aztlaner Shaman ripping the heart out of a runner with his left
hand while his right hand is spraying blood into a spirit form.
Flavor: "Holy drek!!! I'm out of here!"

Maze of Mirrors - Challenge (Indoor/Barrier)
Sleaze: Leadership - 2, Technical - 1
Text: "If alarm is triggered, roll D6 for each runner present (add +1 (for
each one) if runner possesses 'Leadership' skill). On a roll of 1-3,
runner is lost and returns to safehouse turned until end of next turn [this
accounts for being lost]. On a roll of 4+, runner may continue the
shadowrun."
Picture: A group of runners staring at themselves in multiple mirrors,
confused.
Flavor: "Too bad ugliness couldn't get us through this, right Skwraaaaaark!"

Beautiful Weather - Special (Stinger)
Cost: 2 Nuyen
Text: "Play when a player announces a shadowrun. Owner chooses and turns
an opponent's runner for the rest of the turn. If chosen runner has the
'Hermit' skill, runner is turned until the end of the next turn."
Picture: The runner Static running across the beach towards the ocean while
throwing his cyberdeck over his shoulder (sunny skies).
Flavor: "Forget the shadowrun... where's the sun tan lotion?"

Well - I've got combination Objective/Location cards on my website, but
Location/Stinger seems a bit too much. (Could I deploy this card on my
opponent's turn?)

I can dig the card, but (like a few others) it seems to try too hard to
generate a very particular effect. (+1 for each Ganger, eh?)

ObTest: What's the difference between a Runner and a Runenr card?

I'll reserve comment on this card; for a while there was a rather
similar one on my website.

UGH!

It's one thing to reference another card in card text... another thing
still to incorporate similar mechanics.. but this is just plain
gruesome. I'd eliminate everything after the +2/+2 to all Electrical
Challenges and create - I hate to say it - a different game effect
entirely.

I do like the bonus to Reputation, although it's rather similar to the
Mystic Testing Grounds.

This doesn't really work, since combat would be resolved before the
Blood Spirit could be conjured. I could see something like:

AZTLAN BLOOD MAGE / Challenge (Corporate/Personnel)
6/6 (A1). Aztechnology must be in play when Blood Mage is revealed or
it is
considered a bluff. 2Y: +1/+1 (A2) until the end of shadowrun. Add a
permanent
+1/+1 bonus for each Runner killed by Blood Mage.
SLEAZE: Conjure-2 or Sorcery-2

Since the Location needs to be in play, this guy may as well be
considered Corporate. I lowered the 'pump' increase, and the Armor
increase is a one-time effect; the permanent bonus more than makes up
for this. (The permanent increase would also disappear once the Blood
Mage is trashed; that isn't particularly clear.) The Sleaze rating
changed considerably...

I'm rather taken with the way this turned out. May I use him? :)

Skwraaaaaark!"

I'd drop the alarm triggering phrase, and replace it with "..if Maze of
Mirrors is not sleazed." I just can't see Runners in a Maze actually
triggering an alarm; the effort seems too passive.

"Roll D6 for each level of Leadership Runners possess" is a much better
phrasing. I'd double check this against one of the existing Challenges,
thoguh. The "returns .. until end of next turn" is ambiguous: end of
owner's next turn? Turned and present in the safehouse? I'll leave
this to your clarification.

This is a pretty cool card; good for stopping intercepts, Tempest from
blowing stuff up after the Run is over, and so on. The text can still
be streamlines, though --

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER / Special (Stinger) / 3Y
Play when a shadowrun is announced. Turn target Runner; if target
Runner is a Hermit, Runner remains turned until your next Refresh
phase."

Besides the added length the Runner is turned, though, what does this
card do that GAQS doesn't?

Next post!
