Subject: Shadowrun card ideas... [Part 3]

Here is another batch of cards I created a few weeks ago and quite
recently. Again, thanks for taking the time to read and take all the time
you need in replying if required.

Changed Music Scene - Special (Stinger)
Cost: 0 Nuyen
Text: "Play on an opponent's rocker runner during the refresh phase by
adding five 'changed music tokens' to the card. For each time the rocker
is turned for the 'fame' skill, roll D6. On a roll of 1-x, where x = (6 -
# of 'changed music tokens'), clear remaining tokens and receive fame
normally. Otherwise, remove number of 'changed music tokens' equal to the
number of 'fame' of runner per further attempt."
Picture: A picture of Glitz pulling his hair out as he compared last week's
charts at being #1 to this week's chart of being #101.
Flavor: "Trust me, I am due for a big chart topping hit soon..."

-- To elaborate my formula a bit, say I play this card against you (Jim or
Mike) and add the five tokens. You want to turn Glitz for fame so rolling
the D6, you get a 5 so Glitz will not gain you fame this round - his latest
album was a flop. The next round you again turn Glitz for fame, removing
one token for his one 'fame' skill. Rolling a 6, Glitz sees his career in
the gutter. Third round you send Glitz to Club Vortex, and being a nobody,
he can not score drugs either - no tokens were removed because there was
not an attempt against his anti-fame campaign. The fourth round you
attempt to turn Glitz for fame, removing another token and needing a 1-3.
Your first roll is a 5 again, but being aggravated, you play a "Deja Vu",
obtaining a 2. The remaining tokens are removed and Glitz moves back to
the top, gaining that 1 Nuyen for his 'fame' skill.
-- I actually was throwing a D6 for the above numbers *smirk*.

Eviction Notice - Special (Stinger)
Cost: 4 Nuyen
Text: "Play on an opponent's safe house during the refresh phase. All
runners living there are turned for the rest of the round due to requiring
new living arrangements."
Picture: A sleazy looking landlord with Stomper and Syn standing guard
behind him holding up an eviction notice.
Flavor: "Maybe our next place Mr. Landlord will give us some heat at night!"

-- Any cards that would affect a safe house like the Time-Delayed Bomb
would be trashed after moving out.

Famous Publicity - Special (Stinger)
Cost: 2 Nuyen
Text: "Play on a runner that just successfully gained reputation points.
The famous target runner is turned until the end of the owner's next turn.
If target runner is then further defeated, the victorious runner earns a
reputation equal to twice the deployment costs of famous target runner."
Picture: A surprised Lord Torgo on the front page of a trid...
Flavor: "Everyone has their 15 minutes of fame one day."

-- Shadowrunners in the lime light make easy targets for enemies...

Yesterday's Media Sensation - Special (Stinger)
Cost: 1 Nuyen
Text: "Play on a target runner before owner's legwork phase begins. Target
runner is considered turned until the end of the owner's next turn. The
next dice roll for target runner has either a +1 or -1 for rolls, which
ever makes the results worse."
Picture: A tattered newspaper with Lord Torgo's picture in the trash.
Flavor: "Lord who?... wasn't he in the dreaded limelight recently?"

I think someone already pointed out that Rockers don't turn to use Fame;
that's just a switch to 'turning' to 'using Fame'. This is, however, a
wonky card. A much easier-to-comprehend text exists, I'm sure of it:

DROPPING IN THE CHARTS / Special / 0Y
Play on target Rocker. Place (6-X) tokens on target Rocker. Whenever
owner would gain additional Y from Rocker's Fame, remove a token from
Rocker instead. When there are no tokens left, trash Dropping In The
Charts.

This removes the element of chance, but certainly makes the effects easy
to follow. To tighten the wording, I'd follow Shady Manager a bit
closer (as far as the generating-money-from-Fame phrasing) and actually
name the tokens; nothing in particular comes to mind.

On the other hand, with umpteen tokens (g) in the game, it helps to have
a token destroyer.

"Turned out" needs to be fleshed out: are they simply not considered
present there (a la Coffin Hotel) or is there another effect you had in
mind?

Since the safehouse only exists conceptually, it should probably be
re-worded, "Play on target player" (and since I hate that phrasing, just
have it generate the effect that, "All target player's Runners ... "

I'm pretty sure I alrady commented on the last two (Media Sensation and
Yesterday's News), so I'll leave off here.

Pretty interesting cards. You have to watch for the text, though --
it's easy to ramble on (I've done it myself) but the cards really can't
fit more than two dozen words, so they have to be clipped quite a bit.

Keep up the good work -- it's always cool to see what folks think should
appear in the game.

Hey, many Rock musicians (I mean real rock, not the charts stuff) never
hit the charts and still make a living or even a good profit. Perhaps
there should be a distinction between Famous Rocker and Underground
Rocker... ;o] ---Felix
