I would have to disagree on this one. I have noticed alot of posts
lately that people a terrified and a bit miffed at the set back dates.
There is alot of fear that the game will die, unless something happens
right NOW. This couldn't be farther from the truth. I live in a world
of set backs and broken deadlines. It happens all the time. Anyone out
there who plays computer, board, card, or RPG games knows that the
gaming industry is nothing if not whoosy on release dates. Anyone out
there who reads books (mostly in the fantasy and SCI-FI area) in a
series knows that part 3 wont be released for 1 1/2 years after you
finish part two, then goes through 3 push back dates and finaly you get
to read it 2 and something years later. Sure people get miffed at the
company and cus and swear up and down that they will drop whatever it is
from their life, but come the actual release, they are in line with
their money to buy. It may only be a pack... the "lets just see" factor
kicking in, but one pack leads to two and then to a whole box, and
before you know it your back in the thick of it.

The game wont die until its time for it to die. As long as FASA
puts up booths at conventions, and all the little posters at the gaming
shops get seen, and as long as there is one box somewhere on a shelf the
game will last. I think people are just being a little impatient. Now
I don't disagree with the fact that the "new" "young" gamers might not
latch on, but from what I've seen in my local gaming shops, they don't
stick with anything for longer than it takes for the newness to run off.
I also think that, sure some current shadowrun players may give up the
game right now in leu of something else... IE doomtown or whatever, but
come feb-mar when Corpwars does get released and they see it on the
shelves and in conventions, intrest will be rekindled and they will come
back. For as much as I like magic (author ducks the thrown rocks) and
as much as I like shadowrun, I couldn't play either one exclusivly. You
do need to get away for a while and then come back, it keeps ideas
fresh, and intrest up.

I think shadowrun will do fine. It has a strong company behind it
and even more importantly it has 9 years of history (the RPG anyway),
thats a long time for any "idea" to stick around. Gamers know about
shadowrun, and intrest in that "world" will always be there... and as
long as there is an intrest, books will sell, 6 sided dice will be
rolled, RPGs will be played, and my Torgo will turn to trash all of your
elves.

That happens in other industries, too... remember how many push-backs there
were for the release date of Prodigy's 'Fat of the Land'? *groan*
