That's old news. They released the info just before GC'98. I love Earthdawn.
Our gorup has been playing it quite regularly since I had to start it up in
preparation for judging at GC. The system IMHO is the bast I've GM'd for a game.

Still, it's not that unexpected for the gaming industry. Earthdawn's been
around for a while, and it had it's run but no other pure fantasy system has
been able to hold it's own against the T$R behemoth. I'm glad ED lasted as
long as it did.

However, FASA filled the ED pocket with two new gaming systems debuted at
GC'98. A miniatures combat game an ariel combat system. These are said to
possibly pave the way to one or two RPG's, depending.

I did talk to FASA Mike, and felt out the future for ED being sold to another
company. I was also concerned for possibilities of ED tournies and such being
maintained at GC or other Cons.

Mike said FASA was actively talking with other corps buying the ED system. He
said FASA would still hold the rights to ED, just another company would
develop it. In this light, he said it was possible this new company would
probably work with FASA on running tournies and publicity for ED.

It's not a bad sign at all. FASA is still doing excellent with it's two main
Cash Cows. As I said, Earthdawn was one of many casualties for those that've
stepped into the fanatasy pond and tried to tackle the T$R shark. It's only a
matter of time.

Sad but true, but I'll still fly the ED banner and will keep the realm alive
for a while yet.

just because it dropped ed doesn't mean shadowrun is on the chopping
block...companies just have to adjust to the growing gaming industry, one in
which i believe fasa has held their own over the years... and as loki
mentioned another company may pick it up...i mean some company bought the
rights to Chill a good rps if i might add...so this just generates more yen
for fasa...

Check out Role Master it is an excellent system and it's been around longer
than ED, and Shadowrun ...the game system is steeped heavily in the JRR
Tolkien world of The Lord of the Rings.... it is in my Opinion better than any
system I have ever played, and very detailed in it's charactor generation and
skills... I like the fact that one can choose any kind of charactor and
develop it in any fashion you like....

Since we're off topic anyway, Anybody have a fraggin' clue where I can
get a hold of a Dark Conspiracy rulebook? It's the game which led me to
play Shadowrun in the first place, but it was produced by ye old Games
Designers Workshop who seems to have vanished off the face of the earth
for purposes of direct communication...

Anyway, for an on topic comment, see my next post.
