I was thinking of publishing a searchable database on the web. The
categories are listed below. I am interested in getting any feedback on
this. Good idea? Changes? Thoughts?

Runner:
name, type(troll rocker, human rigger..), cost, skills, traits, rarity
Gear, Location, Contact:
name, type, cost, text, rarity
Special:
name, stinger(y/n), cost, text, rarity
Objective:
name, reputation, text, requirements, bonus, rarity
Challenge:
name, type, sleaze, text, rarity

There is an excellent online database for L5R (for those of you who
don't want to acknowledge other games exist, bugger off) that
allows searches based on any word.

the URL if you wanna look at it is http://www.cowell.org/~andy/cgi-
bin/l5rcardsrch.cgi

Would this be downloadable for PCs and make future card additions
possible? If so, I think it´s a very good idea; hopefully we´re getting
a few more expansions for our game. There should be a keyword search
option to look for card text keywords.---Felix

Talk to Teos Abadia (teosabadia@*********.net), since I think he already
has an MS Excel spreadsheet available at this site. (I've never used
it, so you might want to talk with him about its features.)

I was thinking about doing something like this myself. An access database
tied to a VB front end, and with an XML import/export feature so you can
simply export custom cards, post them on your page in XML, and then someone
can download them and import them into their version of the program.
Alternatively, you could export to HTML for actual viewing on a web page.

However, since I'm still fighting with Pocket Secretary '98, and I have to
get parts of the Archive and TSS Productions back online before I get
lynched, I probably wouldn't be able to work on this for at least a month.

Would there be any/much interest in a util that would do this? I don't want
to code something that only a couple of people would use, but I could see
this as being very useful for the custom card sets that some people are
making up.

An example of what I am doing is at
http://www.lrc.arizona.edu/ZachH/Shadowrun/runners.htm

It's not fully functional, but it's just a work in progress. Based on the
selected info, it grabs the data from an Access database and creates a
dynamic html page.

The address is still http://www.duke.edu/~tsa1/Shadowrun/ . I have received
a number of good tips on perfecting the spreadsheet, and will hopefully
implement those soon, after I finish with a few projects. Zachariah, let me
know if you want any help or if you want to use the spreadsheet. To
everyone else, keep those ideas coming! They will be used!
