No, the way I uderstand it, once you've declared a Shadowrun you must
at least encounter the first challenge before declaring you're going
to pull out. (Of course an "No Way Out" or "All or Nothing" stinger
forces you to go futher, and a Yamaha Rapier allows a runner to return
to the safe house.) Under normal circumstances though, at least that
first challenge will have to be dealt with.
