As my first New Year's resolution, I promise never to mention specific
trades on the list again. Really, this one's gonna happen.

Also, I've been trading an awful lot of cards lately. If there's anyone
out there who hasn't received a trade yet, pop me email and I'll see
what I can do.

I recently received some German cards from a very swell guy (Ivo
Petschke). They're produced by FanPro, which also handles distribution
for the Shadowrun RPG. There are some slight differences worth noting.

The starter box (and presumably booster packs, which another
international acquaintance is sending) has, of course, a FanPro label.
In general, the cards are "lighter" -- brighter tones and a higher
contrast. The backs of the cards, especially, are noticably brighter.
More importantly, the corners of the cards are cut differently --
longtime ccg players might think of the differences between, say, Beta
Magic cards and the Unlimited Edition cards. They also seem to be of a
slightly lighter stock; they're very flexible.

Both German and English SRTCG cards are available in Germany; the
English text card I received was identical to its States-side
counterpart. (And thanks, again, Ivo.)

There are some cute near-translations. Hellish Traffic is simply "Stau"
(or "Stall", if I'm not mistaken.) Change of Plans is "Plan B". And,
best of all, Milk Run is "Baby-Run". Now ain't that a cute picture!

I did manage to contact both Mike Nie.. Nel.. you-know-who, as well as
one of the FanPro operators. Both promised to get the "German-Only"
promo card spoiler text to me when the holidays were over.

In Mike's own words, however, "Those cards are actually not 'official'
cards in my opinion due to the fact that the first time I saw them was 2
or 3 months AFTER they had already been printed! It wouldn't be that bad
except a couple of the cards are really bad in my opinion. In
particular, the Matrix AI card is very damaging to the game. I wouldnt
of minded them doing some of their own cards if the cards they wanted to
do were good. (Sigh!)"

So it doesn't look like they might be tournament-legal.. argh! :)

Hope everyone had happy holidays. I know I sure did. Just waiting for
the Underworld!
