I'm all for making the Geese an automatic trigger, no matter what.
However, I can't imagine why, it would get labelled "Challenge
(Awakened/Outdoor)" if you weren't able to somewhere take advantage of
it.
My guess would be that in the "natural pause" when your opponent could
GAQS you, you'd be able to use the spells. Stungloves are a bit more
problematic, since weapons really shouldn't be used outside of combat.
Since they are potentially more effective, limiting them to combat use
makes sense to me. (You'd still be in combat, and so take damage, which
might be overbalancing.)
As far as when the trigger is raised... the Second Run is (allegedly)
correcting all the gear cards or Runner abilities that sleaze Challenges
to read *trash* Challenges, so it seems they would be able to be used at
any point in the run, alarm or no. I suppose you could always have your
deckers use Sleaze to reset the alarm (or keep a Distraction in your
hand).
