I'm posting my list to THE list as well, just cuz hey, it's a fun
discussion topic. Everyone loves arguing about what's "The Best"
All I can give you is pre-Underworld, unfortunately. Here the best from
the base set, in order, with a little explanation:
Stomper - He doesn't cost much (7¥). He's big. He's got armor. He's got
stamina. And he's got Melee 2, which means he's 10/7 A1 with a Katana.
The best guy in the game, IMHO.
Thrash/Glitz/Moonlighting - What I love and hate about the game. These
cards (the 'money makers') are great. They also pretty much NEED to be in
every deck just for speed purposes.
Katana - What's a really common skill? Melee. What not only pays for
itself, but gets better? That's right, Katana. 2¥ for +2/+0 is great...
2¥ for up to +5/+0 is unsane.
Maglocks - The challenge to end all challenges. Not as great if the
passkey wasn't a promo, but hey, it is. One of these things can hold off 4
Skwaaaarks & 2 Stompers seemingly FOREVER.
Fuchi Industries - What's the gift that keeps on giving? That's right, th=
e
big star of Fuchi. Not going on a run this turn? Hey, how 'bout making
money anyway? Some of the best deckers are decking-3 (static) or
decking-2 (kraker jack). So send 'em over. Also nice for winning the game
after False Mentoring over the win point.
Tin Man - Pumpable is nice. Pumpable on both ends is REAL nice. Pumpable
with armor, Stamina, and Technical (byebye Maglocks)? Well, it puts him on
the list. Nice cigar, too.
Dermal Plating - Hmm, not only is this one of only three items I can think
of to increase your toughness, but it also gives you not A1, but A+1?
Where can I sign up?
Squatter - Remember how annoying Regrowth was in Magic? What if you
could've done it every turn?
Guardian Dracoform - 12/10 A3, cannot be sleazed. 'nuff said.
Halloweener Hell - 14 damage when fully loaded, almost never gets sleazed.
What a fun challenge... when it's yours.
You'll notice False Mentor is missing from this list, as is Lord Torgo.
That's because I refuse to play with either out of general principle. The
damn things (esp. the Mentor) are just about broken.
So, that's my take. Good luck with the article.
