Well, at least Stingers are always trashed. Specials may stay in play,
the Q&A says that it should remain evident if the special is to stay in
play or not.

Comparison they used was Bad Lunch and Riots.

I think he was aksing if LAotL would stay on the runner if the runner got
arrested by another source (say, handcuffs). Which would still mean the
special gets trashed along with the gear. right?
