1. Maybe you've had a bad draw? Your two Tempest's and Dante came out
early in the game and are now in the trash pile? You're sitting with a
Sleep and Fireball in your hand that ain't much good in the game
unless H-man or Stomper suddenly get some mojo. (Or maybe if you had
Squatter, but Awakening would be more cost effective in this case.)
2. You know you could almost take an Objective needed to win. You can
handle two of the Challenges no sweat. The damn Genetic
Monstrosity/Killer Drone/Fusion Gate/Etc is the only thing you can't
sleaze because you don't have Tech. You wouldn't normally worry, but
the last Challenge is Lone Star Patrol and your opponent is sitting
there with 20-some nu yen. You don't have a Mage in hand or on the
table, but you're holding Awakening and Jinx, with the money to use
them both.
3. Same as above but it's an Awakened/Personnel Challenge requiring
Social and the spell in your hand is Sleep.
4. Same as above but it's an Awakened/Personnel/Street Challenge
requiring a skill you don't have and the spell in your hand is
Invisibility.
4. You're playing a deck like Tony's that doesn't have mages and packs
some anti-social brutes. Might be kinda cool to toss in an Awakening
with a couple of Sleeps/Invisibilities to get past those bothersome
Personnel/Awakened social requiring Challenges.
I can give you more examples, but that was four that came right off
the top of my head.
