(Jim N. bows his head in shame).
Sorry about the contradictory ruling. It happened because of the word
"defend"
on the Runners on Retainer card. The original ruling is correct. The
runners
on Retainer are initiating the combat, so they are the Attackers.

I've read through so much card text in the last week (finishing Second
Run)
taht my head is a mess.
