Subject: Aztechnology: an idea and a second look

I too hate the idea of a game filled with such a wide variety of cards and
options to be reduced to a simple and graceless Stomper rampage. Yet, I
refuse to believe that such decks are truly superior and the only way to
beat them is making house rules forbidding the use of certain cards.

I have been hearing quite a bit of discussion on whether or not the Bounty
Hunter is too powerful, or too inexpensive, or how much it would cost to
kill Swraaak, etc. I say forget about the Bounty Hunter if you are playing
against one of those ever popular Stomper/Katana Decks and take a look at
the location card Aztechnology. I recently played a friend of mine using a
suicide deck that used this card and it proved to be quite destructive to
both of our teams since any player may use it and we were both playing very
cheap decks with very cheap runners.

Since then, I have been thinking of many ways to incorporate this location
into an anti-big guy deck. These decks using the big guys are very
dependent on their supporting runners who are both as cheap as they are
useful. The point is that if you are playing against one such deck, either
killing a cheap runner or sacrificing an expensive one would be a large
price to pay for a one in three chance of an effect; however, if you are
using a deck that rewards creative combinations of cheap runners and
corresponding gear, locations, hq, challenges, etc. this would be quite
useful.

A magic deck has plenty of 3Y runners; there are gangers 4Y and under;
there are a few mafia and yakuza runners at 3Y or 4Y. After the original
cost of 3Y, one would have the equivalent of a special card that would
read, "Roll D6, on a roll of 1-4: no effect; on a roll 5-6: Target Runner
is Trashed. No anti-special cards may be used to stop this card. More
than four of these cards may be included in a deck" Cost 3Y. Not too bad
of a chance if your deck is heavy with cheap, yet useful runners with a few
loaded dice. 3Y is a small price to pay for the chance to kill a
gear-laden-expensive runner.

What do you think?
