Subject: The Z-Zone -- Who is present?

We need some clarification on a card. It’s wording is slightly confusing.=

The Z-Zone reads: Street Location (Barrens) Use in place of a shadowrun.
Select a team of Runners and roll D6. On a 1 or 6, pay an "air tax" of 1
nuyen for each Runner present or one of your Runners (randomly chosen) is
trashed. 2-5: Attack another player! All Runners on both sides must be
committed to the fight. Resolve combat as normal.

A friend and I were playing this weekend and a problem occurred when The
Z-Zone was played; a team was selected; the die was rolled, and the team of
runners attacked. All but two of the defending player’s runners were turne=
d
save two. Who fights? Do even turned runners get to participate? Must all
defending runners participate? Where exactly does it occur? Are the runners
in the safehouse affected by damage such as Adam Bomb, Cortex Bomb, and
Hellblast (Any card doing damage to all present Runners).

"All Runners on both sides must be committed to the fight," seems to be the
problem in the wording. Which runners are committed to the fight and which
runners are considered present? This is vital, especially since I used 2
Adam Bomb runners to attack his runners with the desired effect of setting
off a chain reaction that would decimate his entire safe house – DAMAGE! =

DAMAGE and once again! -- each runner present suffers 10 pts. of damage!

In addition, on a die roll of a 1 or 6 and you pay the "air tax," what
happens to the attacking runners do they go on with the fight or do they
return the safehouse?
