I'd have to disagree as gear is only used if you want it to, you
choose
the gear you are using before combat. Like if you had 2 ares predators,
one
with explosive ammo and the other with apds, you would have to choose
which
one you where using. You don't have to use any gear if you don't want to.

The card says Add the runners threat rating to the threat of the
challenge. Keldon's point is right; you have the choice of using the
gear your runner possesses. Personnaly, I think that FASA wanted
something simplier for this card: "you see those two numbers in the
bottom right of the runner card ?? You simply had those to the
challenge". I know and agree that the runner would do anything in his
power to stop the other runners, but the game is suppose to be kept
simple. Remember the PRC-Yellowjacket ?? Why does a runner cannot use
cyberware while having fun with his LITTLE toy ?? It's not logical,
since only two runners can have this card (the others need skillsoft:
piloting, witch is forbiden by the Yellowjacket, and the other his Clutch
who will eventually return to piloting 1).

Since, IMHO, the matter of gears/specials(totems)/Locations(Cave of the
Halferville)/ Contacts(Ganger Leader)/Objectives(Street Wars) cards have
been cleared out, what about the damage the runner already soffured ??
What about Stamina ?? What about his natural armor ?? Are we suppose
to stick with simplicity ?? I think yes, so that means forget about the
damage and add the armor as well.
