Subject: [Off-Topic] Durable Shadowrun cards...
Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 17:47:13 -0400
I have to admit that these pieces of cardboard are pretty durable to abuse
of various kinds. And I am not even talking about using them for play either!

Yesterday morning, after enjoying my 5 day weekend, I came down to the
basement to check on the latest news (so far behind it is not funny, but
anyway...). Half-asleep, I set my bowl of cocoa puffs down on what I
thought was a durable tower of compact discs. Just as I let go of the
bowl, the stack gives way and my bowl tips over onto the edge of the desk,
splashing cereal and milk over everything. Saying a few choice words, I
start to clean up the mess slowly when my eyes peer down onto the floor and
what binder do I happen to see sitting there? Aarrgghh!!!

So in a frantic pace, I snag the binder, grabbing towels left and right to
try and dry up the milk. Seems milk is like water - it gets into
everything. Every plastic sheet in the binder had milk seeping between the
pages while some was actually inside the little pockets for each card. No
rarity of card was safe - milk was over a good many of them. Smearing milk
all over the plastic sheets, I undid the binder and went to work on the
cards themselves.

The cards had that appearance of moisture on the cards. Thoughts of having
to track down these cards raged through my mind when a thought occurred to
me. They seem to be coated with a slight plastic-type finish. Taking a
damp cloth (what did I have to loose at this point?) I lightly 'washed' the
cards, then dried them down. I let them sit out in the air for a bit,
letting them completely dry out. Checking on them later - viola! They
were good as new, if not better! No marks, no stains, no nothing except
the cards as I received them.

Morale of the story - when you have a choice for breakfast of either cereal
or pizza, go with the pizza!
