It was my understanding that you could play any number of specials
(Stingers included) that you had either the Nuyen or the Runners for,
unless there is some pre-existing condition (eg, Totem).
My guess would be yes, it is legit.

I don't think so. If you pull out with one, you pull out with all unless
there
is some external factor (like text saying you cannot *voluntarily* pull
out of a Shadowrun, eg. Bear Totem).
