Subject: Small, pointless complaint about FASA (might want to ignore)
Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1998 14:38:42 -0700
At GenCon this past August I tried out at least a dozen card games
looking for one that sparked my interest. I'd never played a card game
before. When I went to the Fasa booth I talked to a tall skinny guy,
slightly balding and he tells me about the game and sits me down with
a guy running demos and tells me all about Corp Wars and how the 2nd
run will be coming soon and how they have ALL these resources
dedicated to the game, blah, blah, blah...

And now, a little over one month later, they do a complete turn
around. Now, the man I talked to was running the booth and giving
orders, etc. and one of the artist sitting down pointed him out to me
and said, "Ask that guy right there, he's the Dir of Marketing." So,
this was an informed employee.

I believe it was Loki that posted some reasons he was given for the
delay. They sounded genuine and I tend to believe him. The reasons
were roughly something to do with the buy-out of Ral Partha, their
miniature game and 3rd edition SR line. Now, I realize that Fasa is a
smallish company but I'm almost certain that none of these decision
were made with in one month of GenCon.

I think they had to of known these changes were coming and that
Corp Wars and the 2nd run would be pushed back and that Earthdawn
would be dropped. BUT this didn't stop them from selling me on both of
these product lines. I specifically asked about the resources devoted
to these two products and I was assured they were strong lines.

I guess I feel like I was scammed after spending $200+ on SRCG and
at least another $150+ on Earthdawn books, and it was the same guy who
told me about the games that was taking my money. I know they couldn't
just come out and announce their changes while I'm standing at their
booth, but I just feel like I was lied too and that sucks, regardless
of how good their games are.

However, the card game is still just as playable without Corp Wars
or the second run and I'm far from completing a set of the 1st run
anyway. And there are plenty of Earthdawn books out for me to run a
campaign for the next 5 years and not run out of material.

So, my point is...I still like these two products and I won't be
giving up on either, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I buy any
new product lines from Fasa and I'll never trust someone in marketing
again.

Ok, done.
