Hoi all,
I did some major brainstorming while driving home from work today =
and stumbled upon a few thoughts I think would make the game even more =
interesting than it already is. I'll start with the basic idea and =
build from it to see where I'm coming from and going to.
Day/Night token: This token would be played on the center of the =
playing field and starts with Day. It would be turned over each time =
the starting players turn comes around at the start of the turn. This =
can be signified by a coin (Heads/Tails) or by some kind of token card, =
etc. The reason I thought of this starts with the Owl Totem. If you =
have 4 Shaman with Owl Totems, how could it possibly be Night for 2 and =
Day for 2? This restricts the Owl Totem to only be able to "run" once =
every 2 turns. Which leads to:
Time Limited Objectives: somewhat similar to the "Doomsday Device" =
Objective introduced in the Underworld expansion. Except, the Objective =
could say under "Requirements: Time Limit-5" meaning that from the time =
it is revealed, it must be taken in 5 days or it is put at the bottom of =
owners Objective pile at the end of the 5th Day. And this is easily =
marked by placing a D6 on it and adding +1 each time owner's turn comes =
around to mark the days.
And the Day/Night token also could lead to:
Special Trait: Nocturnal- -2/-0 to Runner during the Day.
It could easily be applied to some elves and orks, since a lot of them =
prefer the night or Metahuman Runners with (in game terms Sunlight =
Allergy). Even a new Gang HQ could use this, i.e. "Nightstalkers". And =
hey, how about Vampire or Lycanthrope (if I misspelled, I mean Werewolf) =
Runners? Easily done with this. Which takes me to thoughts on Vampire =
Runners that have thought up and tinkered with on the net expansions. =
As follows:
Vampiric Runners would be Nocturnal and (or those Runners with HMHVV =
tokens thought up in the net expansions) would have to be turned during =
the Day. And when Night comes around at the beginning of you Legwork =
phase, roll D6: on 5+ "said Vampire" adds +4/+2 and a randomly =
determined Runner present adds -2/-1 until the end of your turn. If no =
other Runner is present, trash "said Vampire". This wouldn't have to be =
printed on the card, but instead be printed on an "Unofficial Expansions =
Rules".txt or .htm printout available somewhere among our SRTCG pages or =
something. These drawbacks and bonuses to these Runners being in your =
deck would (I think) balance out quite well and not really hurt an =
opponent not using these Unofficial net cards. Also, I guess Vampiric =
and Lycanthrope Runners wouldn't be able to use Cyberware either. And =
if a Runner has Cyberware and becomes infected with a HMHVV token, they =
would take 1 AP damage each turn. Real nasty, huh?
Which leads me another thing at the present time, and it mostly regards =
the Runner card ideas I've seen on the net expansions and on the SRCard =
list. An Amerind or Vampire or different type Runner should still read =
like this for example:
Jetblack - Rocker
Human/Vampire Runner - Nocturnal/Fame
Cost: 5¥
Traits: Leadership -2 Streetwise
Threat: 3/3
Bonus: Trash Jetblack if he would trash another Runner in the safehouse.
And copied directly from the AEX posting as an example:
BIG BEN / Druid-Shaman / 7¥ [Uncommon]
6/5. Conjure, Melee, Streetwise.
British Runner.
Big Ben may trash Gear(Spirit) to face target Shaman in Runner Vs. =
Runner combat.
Flavor:"See ya at high noon, chap!"
I have NO IDEA what race this "Big Ben" is. I'm guessing Ork.....maybe =
Troll. Anyhoo....shouldn't we keep it close to what has been laid out =
for us, to give it a realistic and believable feel? How about like =
this:
Big Ben - Druid
Ork/British Runner
Conjure Melee Streetwise
8¥ 6/5
Big Ben may trash Gear(Spirit) he is holding to attack an opponent's =
Shaman.
"See ya at high noon, chap!"
My submitted revision to this card is simply explained, though I'm not =
sure about the Race. His Bonus is clarified by saying that he has to =
trash a Spirit he is holding, becuz the argument could be made that it =
doesn't say. And the nuyen adjustment is simple becuz of what I've =
studied from the existing cards. Add Att/Def and Skill values and =
divide by two, factor in the Bonus. His total is 14 plus I think the =
Bonus is worth 2, making it 16. Divided by 2, I get 8. Any comments?
I also want to say heck with stating whether or not an UNOFFICIAL card =
is Common/Uncommon/Rare...becuz we here who wish to use them have access =
to printing up 4 copies of each and every one of them. And the fact =
that the cards are (or should be) so well balanced that it don't make a =
dum-diddly-difference. (Flanders-style)
And one last thing....I don't think it's been brought up, but since =
we're talking about expanding into placing different native backgrounds =
for the Runners (i.e. British/Aztlan/African), we should safely assume =
the existing Runners or ones not mentioning nationality are residing in =
the UCAS (Seattle). Which is believable becuz of the ease and speed of =
Sub-Orbital flight to accomplish getting these Runners together to =
attempt a run (Objective) in different lands. My 10 cents.....Raz (bka =
Kevin)
