If youre interested 'Doc, I'll atempt a storyline based along what I told
you the gaming group I was in once did when trying to enter the archology.
(ie: found a tunnel system yet older than the ork underground and used it
to avoid Deus' little surprises through tunning to bypass the underground
into the lower basements/carparks.)

Of course, if you want to tag me with some other storyline, I'll take it
and run it instead :)

What say you?

(Severian to Rand)

While I don't know much about the Archologies I have a few ideas for the
pot:

1) A worker employed by the archology becomes suspicious at the shutdown and
decides to do his/her own digging. The story would involve the adventures
he/she has doing the digging and what he/she finds out.

2) An inhabitant of the Archology (possibly paranormal-critter) escapes
during the shutdown and befrends a shadowrunner. The story would involve
their adventures during and after the shutdown.

Message 2:

(Rand to Severian)

1) The only inhabitants of the archology are in what is like a zoo. The Evil
AI, Deus, keeps them there for further experimentation and baselines for
other experiments. The time from shutdown is too short for an inhabitent to
escape. However the inhabitent could befrend a runner who has entered the
Archology as part of a shadowrun.

Hrr...
>1) Given more time the first one would work. However from a writers
standpoint the time it takes for an un-knowing protagonist to become
involved in a pitched battle of wills, morals, or weapons with the
antagonist is too long for the Shadowrun time speed. But, if the 'seeds of
doubt' are already implanted in the protagonist that might work.
>
>2) a modification on the second might be that the runners who are
investigating the shutdown, or whatever they've been hired to do, are
followed by one of the inhabitents. Perhaps a semi-powerful
Para-Critter with greater than animal inteligence which is very
curious, but doesn't know it's own abilities. The mage of the team
might know of the creature, or that there's something following him.
But only later in the story would the creature figure in. For example,
the runners in the story have reached a crossroads in the plot or in
their physical location and the critter manifests itself to the team
and leads them. Or uses subtle markings to get them to follow it, while it's
following them, to where it has it's lair is. Or if it is trying to escape
it might lead them further on their quest.

1) Yes! I like!

2) Again, needs refining, but good basic idea.

I appologize for the lost part of message two, but I had a bit of a computer
failure and was only able to print half of that message *frowns* amazing how
technology can fail us when we most need it neh?

Anyhow I hope this helps in terms of basic plotlines. I myself favor the
second plotline because of it's completeness and it could have an
interesting twist.

One more side note:

given the nature of many paranormal critters (very hostile) I'd consider, as
a writer, creating a new Para-C from scratch, or just a basic new Para-C for
use in the story. Make it one which is more curious than deadly, but well
able to protect itself. This could be used in story 2.

about the medusean critter in the labyrinthe. From a biologists POV, cilia
only work well in water, and then not as sensory cells. a creature the size
of the monster nessecary would possibly use a different form of sense. one
example could be the electrical field that fresh-water electric eels (which
are incidentally blind) use to avoid obsticles and find prey.

Happy Writting! :)

Kismet - take note of this! See what you can do with it.

(If you're wondering, guys, Kismet came up with an idea very similar to
this one and is thinking of joining in as a writer to do this one if no
one else wants to).

Ummm...interesting idea, but I wouldn't go for it. Then again, I won't
be writing it. :) However, I think a slightly more workable variation
would be a paracritter that the Renraku scientists have been working on
(genetic engineering and all that)>

Why not eyes, ears, nostrils, etc.? :)

Personally, I really like the 'super-medusa' idea for the labyrinth
guardian, but I don't think sensory cilia would be necessary. After
all, they don't function in that way on the normal medusas. Why
couldn't a super-medusa have the same kind of sensory equipment a
normal one does.

Also, I was mistaken - I couldn't find ANYTHING in RA:S about the
labyrinth guardian being immobile. Something to take note of if you're
interested in writing a story set there.
