I've got a story outline and something resembling a char outline, but
they're both heavily under construction and getting changed every day
that I write the story itself. I have the bad habits of rewriting major
parts of everything whenever I feel like it. Another problem is that
with university setting itself back into motion, I'll soon be back on
campus on weekdays. I'll either reregister my campus account or register
my new cable modem account e-mail once its installed (6 weeks to go on
that damned 10 week waiting time). Until then, no mail from me outside
of the weekend.
By the way, I can't remember the max amount of words we could use in our
stories... I've been going light on descriptions and such so far to
keep myself from getting into trouble later on, but I'd like to know so
I could prepare myself :).
Anyway, all my files are on campus, but I can give you a very basic
outline from the top of my head:
All 'chapters' are started out with a transcript, giving a situational
setting and a date to reference the chapter to (since the story is
spread out over the entire time that Deus has taken over the arcology).
Basic main chars (all working names. They'll be replaced by something
more flashy later):
Evelyn - Media newswoman/anchor/reporter
David - Studio crew camera rigger
Tex - I have no idea :)
- Intro
December 20-something '59: Evelyn goes down to the mall floor to do a
story on the mall shooting only a few hours after its happened, when
suddenly the camera drone cuts out mid-transcript under 'suspicious
circumstances'. No further body, just an intro of the transcript to set
the stage.
- First few days after
(transcript of cry-for-help message)
Several days/a week after the mall incident, Deus has majorly taken
control over the arcology. By now everybody who Deus could peacefully
take over has been done, and the constructs are taking care of anybody
else. Whats left of the studio crew are in hiding and, though they have
no idea about the whole Deus plot yet, attempting to send a cry for help
out through the matrix. Their deckers are caught, and traced back to
their jackpoint and eventually back to where the crew was hiding. Most
of the remaining studio crew is killed, though three members survive:
Evelyn the newswoman, David the rigger and Tex the je-ne-sais-pas.
- First few months of '60
Evelyn, David and Tex are doing their best to survive in the middle of a
hostile arcology. They meet a resistance cell and consider joining up,
when an attack on the cell by Deus kills part of the cell and Tex.
Evelyn and David refuse to join up with the resistance after that and
set out to do things their own way.
(unsure about this entire chapter. Its a touch too melodramatic now
that I think about it, and nothing really happens in this chapter. And
I can't think of a suitable transcript)
- Last few months of '60
(transcript of one of their reports)
Evelyn and David have set themselves up in an abandoned part of the
arcology (floor X, I still gotta figure out where the hell it is) where
they've got something resembling a mobile studio, with equipment for
recording and editing footage into reports. They've got a few camdrones
and other assorted drones they've scavenged which David uses to get
footage and to grab supplies without having to leave the studio. In the
safety of their studio, they are making reports of whats happening
inside the arcology. They trade with resistance cells to get necessary
supplies they run short of, and made a deal with these cells for them to
help Evelyn and David get their reports out to the outside world (the
same way the cells are getting humans out). If they survive being stuck
in the arcology, they'd have the inside scoop on the entire arcology
fiasco.
- Finale (mid '61)
(transcript of one of their reports)
Evelyn and David have now been stuck inside the arcology for more than a
year, and are still trying to get their reports out through the
resistance and the occasional shadowrun team that penetrates. While
setting together their latest report, David's camdrone spots a team of
shadowrunners heading up the floors. He follows them, and when Deus
attacks them he trails them. He suddenly recognizes that they're headed
for their studio. Panicking, he jacks out and grabs anything he can
carry. The shadow team bursts through the doors of their studio
followed by some blues and constructs. Evelyn grabs a gun (they learned
how to handle them somewhere across that year as a survival skill) and
their chipbox with reports and they get the hell out of there, tagging
along with the shadow team while having a running firefight with Deus.
David gets jumped by a Medusa and ripped apart. Evelyn slips the
chipbox in the jacket of one of the shadowrunners (without him noticing,
which might give one of the other writers for the shadowrunners some
material) and puts up a valiant last stand kinda deal before getting
killed herself.
Okay, the ending is corny :). It'll probably change before I get
anywhere to that part of the story, so its not much of a problem yet.
Anybody have any comments/question/suggestions?
